Takahashi is a city of about three thousand inhabitants located in Okayama Prefecture, in the West of Honshu island. In 2004, Takahashi City absorbed four towns (町) and now it stretches over more than 540km2. As a « joka-machi », a city which surrounds a castle, Takahashi is blessed with a long history. Bitchu Matsuyama Castle, which counts among the last twelve remaining original castles in Japan, attracts thousands of visitors each year.
While Okayama, the capital city of Okayama Prefecture, is directly connected by the bullet train to the main cities of Japan, as Tokyo, Yokohama, and Osaka, its area remains relatively unknown to international tourists.
Take the Tokaido/San’yo bullet train, mainly from Tokyo Station, Nagoya Station, Shin-Osaka Station, Kyoto Station, Hiroshima Station and Hakata Station, and get off at Okayama Station. Then, take either :
Get off at Bitchu Takahashi Station.
You can use the JR Pass, except if you take a Nozomi or a Mizuho bullet train.
Take the Sunrise Izumo, a sleeper train which goes through, Tokyo, Yokohama, Shizuoka, Matsue and Izumo, and get off at Bitchu Takahashi Station. Basic compartements, called « nobi-nobi », are fully covered by the JR Pass.
