Each year, tens of thousands people join Matsuyama Odori, which is Okayama’s largest dance festival. It is an annual event held on three days from August 14 to 16 in the main avenue running to Bitchu Takahashi Station.
Matsuyama Odori dance has been performed since 1648. It was originally a prayer for huge harvest of cereals and merchants’prosperity.
There are two types of dances : the ji-odori (a popular dance), and the shikumi-odori, which was danced by the warriors. Nowadays, ji-odori is the main dance of the festival.
